Sports Injuries
Sports Injuries are routinely suffered by athletes in professional sports. Sports
injuries can occur due to overtraining, lack of conditioning, and improper form or
technique. Failing to warm up increases the risk of sports injuries.
Sports injuries are broadly classified as either traumatic or overuse injuries. Traumatic injuries are often result of the high collision nature of sports such as Football, Cricket etc. Bruises, muscle strains, fractures and head injuries fall into
this category.
At our clinic we provide treatment of all types acute & over use sports injuries, Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention clinic.
Some of the common injuries in sports are,
⦿ Head and neck injury
⦿ Concussion
⦿ Fractures
⦿ Ligament sprains/tears
⦿ Muscle strains/tears
⦿ Bruises and abrasions
⦿ Overuse injuries – tennis elbow, runner’s knee, ilio-tibial band friction syndrome Burnout and fatigue.
Knee Arthroscopy
The knee is a hinged joint made up of three bones – Femur, Tibia and Patella
(Kneecap). Bones held firmly together by ligaments that stabilize the joint. Two major
ligaments are cross (cruciate ligaments) in the center of the knee and control
the backward and forward motion of the knee-
⦿The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
⦿ The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
Two other major ligaments are located outside the knee joint. They act to stabilize the knee’s sideways motion.
⦿ Medial collateral ligament or MCL
⦿ Lateral collateral ligament or LCL
The ACL is frequently injured in severe twisting injuries of the knee.
The bones inside the joint are lined by a smooth protective layer called articular cartilage, which allows the bones to
glide smoothly upon each other. In arthritis, this smooth lining becomes damaged.
The knee joint is cushioned by pads like structures – Meniscus (shock absorbers between the bones.)
The lateral meniscus
The medial meniscus
The menisci may be torn during twisting movements of the knee.
Various problems of knee joint can be deal with arthroscopy like –
⦿ Meniscal injury
⦿ Ligament injury
Loose bodies within the knee
⦿ Chondromalacia of the patella
⦿ Osteoarthritis
⦿ Septic arthritis
Shoulder Arthroscopy
In shoulder arthroscopy there may be 3 to 4 of very small 5mm portals are made. It
used for diagnosis and treatment of many shoulder problems like-
⦿ A torn or damaged cartilage ring (labrum)
⦿Torn ligaments (in cases of shoulder instability)
⦿ A torn or damaged biceps tendon
⦿ A torn rotator cuff
⦿ A bone spur or inflammation around the rotator cuff
⦿ Stiffness of the shoulder
⦿ Arthritis of acromioclavicular joint
Rotator Cuff Tear
The rotator cuff is a group of flat tendons which fuse together and surround the
front, back, and top of the shoulder joint like a cuff on a shirt sleeve.
